Your Life is God's Masterpiece: He Creates Beauty From Every Circumstance

“We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.”

Romans 8:28 CSB

Authorities imprisoned Corrie Ten Boom and her family for sheltering Jewish people during the Holocaust. She endured unimaginable suffering, including the deaths of her family members, yet she never lost her faith in God. After her release from prison, as she traveled the world sharing the Gospel, she often used a tapestry to illustrate a profound truth: God is creating a masterpiece of our lives.

When speaking to audiences, Corrie would first display the underside of the tapestry as she recited a poem comparing life to a weaving. Filled with knots, strings, and frayed edges, the back of the design appeared chaotic and nonsensical. Then she would triumphantly turn the weaving over, revealing an intricately designed crown.

Holding up the tapestry, she urged her listeners to understand that––though we often view only one side of what God is creating––He is using the threads of our lives to create a perfect design that reflects His goodness and brings glory and honor to Him.

Our limited view prevents us from seeing clearly when we walk through seasons of confusion, uncertainty, or heartache in life. We can focus on the messy, uncomfortable, and untidy parts of our circumstances and question what the Lord is doing.

But there is good news that we can cling to during those times: “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

When the Apostle Paul wrote these words to the Romans, he had endured imprisonment, beatings, shipwreck, and near-death experiences. Yet he still proclaimed God’s goodness. He understood that the Lord was working even in the darkest circumstances of his life. Paul viewed God’s goodness through a spiritual lens, and so can we.

The Lord uses the smallest details, along with the unexpected and sometimes unwelcome events that happen to us, to create something beautiful in us. Everything He allows into our lives, from the mountaintop experiences to the deepest valleys we walk through, is used to shape us into a glorious reflection of Christ.

He can bring joy, contentment, and hope from every situation we endure. And the Lord’s goodness does not stop with us; He also works through our lives to display His love and grace to those around us. May we rejoice in knowing He is working out His glorious plan!

Prayer:

Lord, sometimes it’s hard for me to understand what You are doing in my life. Help me remember You see the bigger picture. I trust You are creating something beautiful in and through me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
